I’ve always been a creative person, but Make-Up was never really on my radar as I’d never realised how many aspects there are to it, but once I had my first lesson I was hooked, and it quickly became my favourite thing.
I feel that my time doing Make-Up and Hair at BOA Stage and Screen really prepared me for my next steps. I’ve gained so many new skills and it's all thanks to all the opportunities I've been given, including all the masterclasses with my teacher Miss Scott, as well as industry professionals coming in to share their knowledge.
My favourite project was our Personal projects at the end of Year 13, I just loved the creative freedom and not having to follow a set instruction. I was allowed to focus on what I am interested in, which is Special Effects and Prosthetics, but I think what made the whole experience positive is that I wasn't left completely alone, if was every struggling with what to prioritise and if I needed to improve in any aspect I was supported by my teachers.
I am now heading off to University College Birmingham (UCB) to study BA (Hons) Prosthetics for Screen and Stage. I am so excited that I’ll be able to create even bigger and more intricate makeup looks. I feel that if I went to a different college, I would not be at the level I feel I am, or as prepared. I think this is due to the access I had to a lot more opportunities and facilities than some other people in my position elsewhere.
One of my best memories at BOA Stage and Screen would probably be doing the photoshoots for my makeup looks seeing my ideas come to life!
